Research topics:
The activity is focused on the design of embedded systems based on Microcontrollers and/or FPGAs. The research group gained relevant experience in the implementation of advanced algorithms for data elaboration, and in the design of wearable/portable IoT sensors based on Wi-Fi, ZigBee and NB-IoT protocols, and of analog circuits for sensor interface, signal amplification, and analog-to-digital signal conversion. In this context, modular, portable electronic devices to be interfaced with electrochemical sensors to detect food quality have been designed.
In particular, flexible multichannel platforms designed for integrating multiple sensors, among which electronic noses (e-noses) and electronic tongues (e-tongues), targeting food quality and safety assessments have been designed. The proposed devices are designed aiming for maximum portability, allowing on-site analyses, and maximum modularity, to meet user requirements. The devices designed are equipped with wireless modules to allow data to be sent to a cloud, enabling, in an IoT vision, services supporting the digitization of the agrifood system for food quality.
