HOW TO REACH US:

Research topics:

The research group belongs to the scientific disciplinary sector AGR / 03 - GENERAL ARBORICULTURE AND TREE CULTIVATIONS. The research of the group is focused on the biology, physiology, propagation, genetic improvement and characterization of tree and shrub species of agricultural interest, the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity, the design and sustainable management of crop systems for fruit production and biomass. The training skills of the sector concern the general principles of arboriculture, the propagation, the biology and physiology of tree plants and their products, even in post-harvest, the evaluation of the quality of fruits and the resulting products, agrobiotechnologies of the different fruit species.

In particular, the research group deals with the following topics: characterization and enhancement of plant biodiversity; Genetic improvement and propagation, through traditional and biotechnological methods; Evaluation of the anatomical structure of plants (also subjected to technological treatments).

Characterization and enhancement of plant biodiversity: study of plant biodiversity through molecular (DNA), morphological (phenotype) and biochemical (target molecules) approaches. Species of historical interest for the research group: cherry, fig, hop, olive, pomegranate, grapevine. Physiological aspects related to stress, especially abiotic stress. Evaluation of the composition of the raw material depending on biodiversity and the agroecosystem. Study of the effect of the terroir. Enhancement of agricultural biodiversity and use of agronomic systems for better agricultural sustainability.

Genetic improvement and propagation, through traditional and biotechnological methods: genetic improvement and propagation of plant species using traditional methods (gamic and agamic), and biotechnological methods (micropropagation, exploitation of somaclonal and gametoclonal variability). Selection of genotypes based on agronomic and commercial characteristics.

Evaluation of the anatomical structure of plants (also subjected to technological treatments): microscopic study of plant cells, tissues and organs through the use of optical and electronic microscopy. Evaluation of the effects of technological processes on the anatomical structure of plants. Evaluation of structural variations of plants subjected to stress. Histochemical techniques of analysis. Microscopic analysis of food preparations.
